Lord of the Rings Online

For the game Lord of the Rings Online, the company Turbine dared to take on a difficult initial scenario, because the world was already very narrowly defined by Tolkien’s novel. And here then an MMORPG should be planted. On the one hand, the game fun had to be guaranteed, on the other hand, the basis should not be touched. Turbine succeeded in this quite well.
For the selection of a race of his character, the player has humans, elves, hobbits and dwarves at his disposal. The races of Sauron’s retinue are only available in the skirmishes and not as independent characters.
Once you have created your character, you get a quest that is very closely interwoven with the novel. For example, as a hobbit, you meet Frodo Baggins as he flees from the Black Rider. Later you also meet Strider and Gandalf. The story of the novel is partly told in small videos. So that not only one quest in the entire game has, there are, as in other MMORPGs, smaller quests. However, these no longer have much in common with the story from Lord of the Rings.
PVP also exists in this game. In the game it is called skirmishes. Here players can compete against Sauron’s force. However, this force is also controlled by players. However, not every player is allowed to fight on Sauron’s side. Only those who have paid are allowed to do so. And here we come to the crux of the game.

The Lord of the Rings Online game is in itself a “free-to-play” game, which means that anyone can participate in the game without paying anything. However, there are many things in the game that are not accessible unless you pay for them. There are two payment options offered in the game. One is the monthly fee. If you pay monthly, you get everything for free and you can do everything. Then there is the prepaid variant. There you can top up your account with in-game currency and then unlock certain things in the game. This in-game currency can also be earned a little bit in the game. However, you have to unlock a lot. For example, you have to unlock riding or the action house. Thus, the game is very limited in the “Free-to-Play” variant.
The following characters were in my possession:
Name | Race | Fighting class | Artisan class | Creation |
---|---|---|---|---|
Duinphillor | Elf | Hunter (25) | Explorer | 18.09.2011 |
Total | Ø 25,0 |

As far as the story is concerned, I can give the game a 1 up to this point. However, I have to give the game a 4 for its paid variants. I decided against the game because of this.
