Herokon Online

Greifenfurt

After the bitter disappointment of Drakensang Online, a new online game was needed. Coincidentally, through the frustration of Drakensang, I found another MMORPG set in the world of DSA. It’s called Herokon Online and like Drakensang it’s also a F2P game.

Herokon Online is also a game that can be played directly in the browser. Only the Flash plugin is required. The website looks very tidy and yet somewhat playful.

The creation of the game character turns out to be a real challenge, because you can define just about everything during the creation. This ranges from simple things like the appearance of the character image to the skills. The available races are elves, humans and dwarves. The class of the character results from the chosen race. Thus, humans can be warriors, roamers, surgeons and mages. Elves can be fighters wilderness runners, preservers and spell weavers. Among the dwarves there are mercenaries, bounty hunters feldsher and geodes. If you don’t want to bother with character creation, the game always suggests five different characters. Five new characters can be generated by pressing a button.

Once you have left the creation process behind, you can immediately get into the game. The first small tasks are accompanied at the beginning by a small video, in which the basic things are explained. During my first encounter with Herokon Online, however, this was heavily bugged. So you could complete the task, but you couldn’t talk to the quest giver. Only after logging in again could you get further in the quest. This pissed me off so much that I put the game aside for the time being. In the meantime these problems are fixed and you don’t have to log out to continue the quest.

However, I encountered other problems. It can happen that the Flash plugin crashes more often. Also, I read in the chat that some have problems when changing the zone more often. However, this has not happened to me yet. Furthermore, there are places where the game starts to jerk very strongly.

The quests that I have encountered in the game so far are the usual genre quests such as run from A to B and deliver a message. I find it a bit problematic that there are quests that can be repeated. Thus, the exclamation marks reappear after a short time. However, new exclamation points also appear with the level-up, and it’s hard to tell whether you’ve already done the quest or not.

GraPHics

The NPC and PC look a bit stale in this game. You can see when you put on other clothes, but details are not visible. The environment graphics, however, are very detailed. You can recognize individual roof tiles on the houses.
