Dark Age of Camelot

Since the game world of EVE Online did not appeal to me, I looked around for a new alternative. This time it should be set in a fantasy world again. My choice was Dark Age of Camelot.
In Dark Age of Camelot there are three different kingdoms that are at war with each other. Each of these realms is very different in terms of characters and races. Albion is the land of King Arthur and there the church rules with the Holy Grail as its symbol. As races, you can play different humans and demi-ogs there. The capital of the realm is called Camelot. The second realm is Hibernia. There live the races that are very strongly connected with nature and magic. Among them are the elves and the firbolgs. The third realm is Midgard, the land of the Vikings. There live, among others, Northmen, dwarves and trolls.
The separation of the three realms is very strictly regulated in DAoC. You can’t just switch sides like in Everquest 2. So far I haven’t found a way to have characters in different realms on the same server. So it seems that once you have made a choice on a server, you have to stick with that choice. This is quite good, as you can’t just carry information from one realm to the other. Of course, the PvP aspect probably plays the main role here.
Since DAoC is a somewhat older game, the graphics are of course no longer up to date and consequently can’t even begin to keep up with the new games. But this has the advantage that even people with weaker computers still have a chance to play the game. What really annoyed me about this game was the character controls. I felt that it was so lousy that I had problems with it all the time. Even in Ultima Online, controlling the character was easier. And that’s why I stopped after the test month.
A very nice thing about this game is that you can customize the armor you wear. I always found that terrible in other games, that an armor looked thrown together. In DAoC you can at least have some influence on the appearance.
